We struck early on day one of the Goffs UK breeze up sale as we secured lot 52, a State of Rest filly consigned by Hyde Park.
This very sale has been incredibly lucky for us over the recent years, we’ve never stretched ourselves in terms of budget but we’ve always managed to find a smart horse at this sale every single year.
Last year we purchased Cool Molly for just 20,000gns, she won a £55k handicap two starts back and has won four of her last six starts.
Prior to this we had Listed winner Glamis Road, also purchased from this sale for just 30,000gns with stakes winners Marshman and Fast Response also picked up from Goffs for moderate amounts.
Whilst the clock is important, it’s just one cog in a big wheel and we take great pride in trying to solve the puzzle and more importantly, find value for our owners.
As mentioned earlier, this filly was purchased from Hyde Park Stud. We’ve previously purchased Oaks 2nd Mystery Angel from them, as well as underbidding G1 winner Cachet.
They send a long list of horses to breeze up sales right across Europe, they are moderately prepared and there’s often tons of improvement to follow both physically and on the track.
Their good ones stand out a mile just as stakes fillies Elsie’s Ryan and Chic Columbine did in their respective breezes.
They’ve had eight horses breezes so far at the two respective sales and this filly is top of the pile despite her pedigree suggesting that she is a filly for seven furlongs plus as a two year old.
Her breeze itself was very progressive, whilst her first furlong was fairly moderate, not helped by the fact that she wasn’t shaken up until after the two furlong pole, her gallop out section was exceptional, recording a top 10% time as she crossed the “finish line”.
She has a big long stride and we were taken with just how well she came up given the physical improvements that are apparent. As mentioned above, she is a filly who we expect to want seven furlongs as a two year old, the Starspangledbanner x Invincible Spirit cross is proven, producing stakes winners Flotus and American Kestrel.
Her sire, State of Rest was a multiple Group One winner between a mile and ten furlongs, collecting over £3,000,000 in prize money. This year sees his first crop hit the track but it is worth noting that his progeny do qualify for the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot and that is firmly on our radar for this filly.
With the rules changing, the Chesham is a race we’d like to target due to the small pool of horses that are able to run in the race and are ready for the Royal meeting in June.
She has a fantastic page under the second dam, that is littered with blacktype animals namely champion stayer, Kew Gardens amongst other very talented middle distance horses.
Ollie Sangster loved this filly, he was keen to train her from the offset and he had firmed up that opinion by taken a large share, which we thank him for. Ourselves and Ollie have teamed up to good affect the last two Goffs breeze up sales with Cool Molly and Gmlamis Road and we are excited to see this filly hit the track for us in 2026.
We will be targeting a valuable restricted maiden before hopefully going to Royal Ascot for the Chesham Stakes
