We are delighted to have secured Lot 1119 from Tattersalls Book Two, a daughter of Pinatubo who will join Ralph Beckett. A stallion gathering serious momentum and a trainer with an outstanding record with fillies make this a particularly exciting addition to Nick Bradley Racing.
Pinatubo is really beginning to establish himself as a stallion, and the results are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. September brought his first Group 1 winner through Saddadd, successful in the Grosser Preis von Baden, and just weeks later Global Goal became his second with victory in the Group 1 Flight Stakes in Australia. Two new Group 1 winners in a matter of weeks represent a significant breakthrough for this exceptional former racehorse.
His daughters are playing a major part in that progress. Alongside Global Goal, Qilin Queen has won the Group 2 Prix de Malleret, demonstrating his ability to produce fillies with the quality to succeed well beyond maiden company. An unbeaten European Champion at two himself, Pinatubo is now building a stud record that gives us plenty of encouragement for the years ahead. We believe this is an exciting time to be buying his stock.
The dam is a winning daughter of Kingman herself, out of listed winner in Lustrous, who was also second in group two company on two occasions in the Lancashire Oaks and Ribblesdale Stakes.
The decision to send this filly to Ralph Beckett adds considerably to her appeal. His record with fillies is exceptional: Bluestocking, winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe; Look Here and Talent, both Oaks winners; You Got To Me, winner of the Irish Oaks; and Lezoo, a Group 1-winning two-year-old in the Cheveley Park Stakes. Across different distances and stages of their careers, Ralph has repeatedly brought talented fillies to the very top.
There is also a particularly relevant success story: Ralph has already trained a stakes-winning daughter of Pinatubo in Pintara. She won on debut at Salisbury before taking the Listed Montrose Fillies’ Stakes at Newmarket by three and a half lengths on just her second start. That experience with the sire’s progeny is another reason to look forward to this partnership.
Ralph has made an excellent start to his NBR career, Alarming was our first horse together, she is dual listed placed whilst Rhodes Runner has now won her last two starts and is another filly who will contest Stakes company in the autumn.
One major advantage for this filly is the Great British Bonus that she qualifies for.
This gives us the chance to pick up a £20,000 bonus for winning a fillies only maiden or novice, with some maidens now carrying a £40,000 bonus if they are over a mile.
The bonus has also been extended beyond maiden company, with the GBB+ scheme now incorporating nurseries and races over ten furlongs as a three year old.
For our owners, this is an opportunity to join a filly by a young sire whose reputation is growing, in a yard with a remarkable history of developing high-class females. We are very much looking forward to seeing her progress at Kimpton Down.
