massaat x caledonia duchess

This filly should look excellent value in twelve months time when we expect her to be winning a maiden and collecting a valuable Great British Bonus.

A family we know, a filly with more size and strength than her winning sister who we owned, with the vendor and trainer (Tom Clover) both taking a large a share.

There is plenty to like about this daughter of Massaat, and we have a clear plan to give her every opportunity to reward her owners.

The mating has already produced two good winning fillies in Granny Budgie and Silky Lass. Granny Budgie won three times in Britain as a two-year-old before adding a victory at Santa Anita. Silky Lass won over a mile at Newcastle for us, collecting a GBB bonus along the way.

Their dam, Caledonia Duchess, is a winning daughter of Dutch Art and a half-sister to Group 3 winner Caledonia Lady. There is proven ability close up in this pedigree, alongside the reassuring evidence of two successful full sisters.

Massaat deserves plenty of respect. A son of Teofilo, he won the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes and finished second in both the Dewhurst and 2,000 Guineas. At stud, he has shown he can produce a top-class performer through Docklands, winner of the 2025 Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. That is a significant achievement and a powerful advertisement for what his stock can do.

The vendor is keeping a leg, while Tom Clover is also taking a share. Both are backing their judgement with their own money, and we regard that shared commitment as a strong endorsement of the opportunity.

We will give her time to develop, with August 2027 our intended starting point, guided by her progress. Tom shares our patient approach, and the aim is to have her ready to make the most of a carefully selected programme.

Her 100% GBB eligibility is central to Plan A, with the ambition of progressing into suitable GBB+ races as she develops. These schemes offer opportunities to collect multiple bonuses, making thoughtful race planning especially worthwhile.

She won't be on the track within the first half of the season but we are confident she will be worth the wait and she will reward her owners in GB Bonuses!
