Dylan was very happy with this recent piece of work, he felt that we'd taken a big step forward for the work that Sam rode and it's full steam ahead to the Brocklesby.
We plan to work at Chelmsford this week and that should tell us a little bit more about his ability but we think he has plenty
On Thursday 12th March, Sam James and Pierre Louis Jamin accompanied Nick to Newmarket to sit on several 2yo’s from various trainers and breeze up consignors. Over the past few years, our private purchases have worked out incredibly well and we have committed to explore this purchasing avenue a little more in 2026.
Not only do we get to get a decent handle on ability, we also seem to pay far less than if we bought a horse that performed at a breeze up sale with the added advantage of the horse already settled in their environment.
This colt by group one winner and producer Harry Angel is currently in training with Dylan Cunha who bought him as a yearling from the Tattersalls Book Three sale, Dylan reports that he was always going to buy him as he trains the half sister who was a first foal and didn’t quiet manage to live up to his expectations mainly due to her lack of size and a few niggling issues that saw her miss her window of opportunity early in the season.
Our new purchase is head and shoulders above her physically, Dylan added that he is much much nicer and his homework has been very good, something that Sam James echoed after riding him yesterday.
Sam came up on the nearside with Pierre on an expensive Starman colt on the far side, with Sam feel in control at the top of the gallop. Dylan’s horses haven’t been rushed this year and both Sam and Pierre felt that we could upgrade any feedback they had based on this with plenty of improvement still to come based on where they are in their development.
Our last purchase by Harry Angel was infact Marshman who was purchased just a month from now at the Goffs Breeze Up sale in 2022. Since then, the stallion has enjoyed a whole host of group success, mainly in Australia where he has produced three group one winners.
After a couple of quiet seasons in the UK, he is enjoying somewhat of a resurgence with more yearlings selling in 2025 than any previous sales season. He’s proven that he is more than capable of producing a quality sprinter and that’s exactly what we believe we have on our hands here.
The Harry Angel x Kodiac cross has produced five winners from eight runners, with one of those without a win running to a mark in the high 70’s. When you look at the remaining two horses, both of those started over a mile and its clear to see that they inherited more from their stamina influencing mares.
Both Dylan and Sam James feel that he is a horse who will be running and winning in April, with Dylan also floating the idea of a run in the Brocklesby based on everything he has seen so far. The yard won the race in 2024 and finished sixth with their only runner last season.
We think this lad represent excellent value, he’s in A1 shape, almost ready to run, has ability and comes strongly recommended by both Dylan and Sam James.
