We are delighted to add Lot 280 from the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale to the Nick Bradley Racing team.
Consigned by Ballybin Stud, this daughter of Good Guess is out of the Listed-winning Cape Cross mare Burke’s Rock, bringing together an exciting young stallion and a female family with proven quality.
Good Guess’s first yearlings are selling this year, with his first two-year-olds due on the racecourse in 2027. A son of Kodiac, he won on his juvenile debut at Chantilly before developing into a high-class three-year-old, winning the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat by three lengths. His own pedigree offers plenty of encouragement too, with champion filly Russian Rhythm his granddam. That combination of juvenile ability, Group 1 performance and pedigree makes him an interesting addition to the stallion ranks. Nick has been really impressed with the fillies by Good Guess so far this sales season and he has been keen to add one to our ranks so we are delighted to secure this filly given how much of a standout physical she is.
The dam, Burke’s Rock, earned her black type by winning the Listed Conqueror Stakes at Goodwood and has already demonstrated her ability as a broodmare. Our filly is a half-sister to Nell Quickly, who finished third in the Group 3 Pinnacle Stakes, and to Shaaqaaf, the dam of this year’s Group 2 Italian Oaks winner Piccola Piuma. Piccola Piuma’s decisive success provides a significant recent boost to the pedigree and shows that this family continues to produce quality performers.
There is also an appealing precedent for this mating within the mare’s own produce. Burke’s Rock has already produced the winning sprinter Oso Rapido by Kodiac. With Good Guess himself a son of Kodiac, this filly returns to a sire line that has already produced a winner from the mare.
Cape Cross is a notable influence as a broodmare sire, with his daughters producing outstanding horses including Australia, Masar, Tarnawa and Tahiyra. His presence adds further substance to a pedigree that combines speed with the ability to perform over longer distances.
Tattersalls Ireland has already provided memorable success for Nick Bradley Racing. Dandalla, a €22,000 yearling purchase, went on to win the Albany Stakes and Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes for Karl Burke. Corazon, bought for just £11,000, became a Group 3 winner in the Prix d’Arenberg at ParisLongchamp. Both demonstrated the opportunities this sale can offer to buyers prepared to look beyond the most fashionable pedigrees.
Karl also targets this sale with the valuable Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes in mind. Alparslan won the 2025 renewal at the Curragh and there has been many others who have gone over to pick up valuable prize money for a race that often lacks depth. Arkinthestars also ran in the race on debut for us picking up four figure prize money and giving her owners an excellent trip across the Irish sea.
We thank Karl for showing his support by taking a large share in this filly, she is slightly sharper than the other two fillies we have bought from part one of the sale and we envisage her making her debut in May over six furlongs.
. We have done well in previous seasons with similiar types, targeting the lucrative £30,000 restricted novices before hopefully stepping onto the £100,000 Fillies Final at Goodwood, a race we have a very good record in and that record should continue in 2026 with three runners. As eluded to above, she will also be targeted at the Tattersalls Ireland Sales race so this filly is going to have plenty of opportunities to collect some good prize money.
