We’ve added another 2yo filly to our string, this time in the shape of a recent barrier trial winner trained by Phil Makin.

Ridden by Sam James, who highly recommended her, she won her barrier trial which stands her in good stead as we look to move into maiden company over the coming weeks.

Phil’s first 2yo runner of the season finished 2nd at Thirsk last week running to an RPR of 78, just in behind a well punted winner with some expensive purchases in behind and he’s certain this Far Above filly has plenty of ability.

Barrier trials have been a hot topic of conversation as of late with their positive effect been well advertised with Witherfords stating that 63% of horses that went for a barrier trial won first time out!!!

If she can put that barrier trial experience to good use like we expect her to then she could look fantastic value and im sure we will be receiving some phone calls offering a fair bit more than her purchase price...

Speaking to Phil, he adds that she is a grand, sound filly with the heart of a lion, a fantastic attitude, a key attribute for these early 2yo's.

He thinks she’s a filly for some good ground who can win a maiden over the summer months.

Phil also purchased the full brother from Ireland, he's a horse who will win races but this filly is a completely different animal to him, she's a sharp, athletic filly with a real quick ground action.

We are thinking about getting her going at the start of May, there’s a restricted maiden at Thirsk and Beverley, with both carrying a €10,000 IRE incentive that she qualifies for.

Phil enjoyed his best ever season in 2025, he’s been entrusted with the breaking in process for dozens of Karl Burke’s yearlings/2yos and we have every confidence in his ability to train a race horse from his Middleham base.

This is a low risk, potentially high reward purchase with a share value of just £20,000 with fees not starting until 1st July.
