We think £9,000 could prove excellent value for Lot 108, particularly when you consider the success of the sire line, the proven cross in her pedigree and the racing opportunities available to her.
She is a filly by Bungle Inthejungle, whose stock are renowned for their speed, toughness and ability to compete from an early stage. That makes him an ideal sire for the type of horse we want to buy: a filly capable of getting to the racecourse at two and giving her owners plenty of opportunities.
A proven Bungle Inthejungle–Acclamation cross
One of the strongest features of this filly’s pedigree is that she is bred on the same Bungle Inthejungle over Acclamation cross that has already produced two very smart fillies.
The headline horse is Manhattan Jungle, a multiple Group-placed performer who was beaten only four lengths in Group 1 company. She demonstrated exactly what this mating can produce: a fast, precocious and high-class filly capable of competing at an excellent level.
The cross has also produced Jungle Jane, another smart and speedy filly who was particularly effective over five furlongs.
That is important because we are not relying on pedigree theory alone. The cross has already worked and has produced fillies with the speed and ability to perform at a high level.
The £9,000 value angle
At only £9,000, this filly gives us the chance to buy into a proven speed pedigree without paying the inflated prices often attached to more fashionable bloodlines.
We are buying a daughter of a sire who regularly produces sharp and durable racehorses, bred on a cross that has already produced multiple talented fillies.
At this price, she represents exactly the kind of value we look for: an affordable initial investment while retaining the potential to develop into a smart racing filly.
A clear route into her racing career
Another major attraction is that she is Band D qualified for restricted races.
That gives us access to races restricted by the horses’ sale prices, meaning she can begin her career against horses bought at a similar level rather than immediately having to take on expensive yearlings from the leading sales.
It gives us every chance of finding a suitable maiden or novice in which she can be competitive and, hopefully, get her head in front.
If she proves herself at that level, we can then look towards bigger and more valuable targets. The restricted programme gives us a sensible starting point without placing any limit on how far she might progress.
Tim Easterby
She will be trained by Tim Easterby, whose record with inexpensive horses and two-year-olds makes him an excellent fit for this filly.
Tim has consistently shown that a large purchase price is not required to win good races. His patient and straightforward approach gives horses every opportunity to develop, while his knowledge of the northern racing programme should help us place her in the right races.
For a sharp filly with a proven speed pedigree and restricted-race qualification, his yard is an ideal place for her.
