Our Blackbeard Filly looking well in her self on the gallops.
Excellent physical by exciting first season sire, Blackbeard!
Blackbeard is a son of No Nay Never, who like Blackbeard, stands at Coolmore. No Nay Never has proven himself as one of the very best stallions around in recent times, responsible for Champion mare, Alcohol Free, and this year’s most successful 2yo filly, True Love.
His best males are now also finding their own way into the stallion shed, with Ten Sovereigns joining first season sire, Blackbeard.
Blackbeard raced solely as a two year old, he had a fantastic amount of raw ability and despite all of his quirks, he should have only have suffered one defeat in his career, that been in the Coventry at Royal Ascot when he had to overcome a disadvantaged draw.
He became famous for his pre race antics, sweating up and often going up on his back legs but once those gates opened, he knew his job and he had a scintillating turn of foot, something we believe he will pass onto his own progeny, with many seemingly agreeing based on his yearling prices so far.
His two runs in Group One company where freakish, especially his Middle Park Stakes where our very own Marshman was in behind, a race he was sent off favourite for.
The mare, Spinacre, was a listed winner as two year old, winning the Listed Flame of Tara at the Curragh over a mile. It’s a fair feat to pick up a Listed race at the Curragh and she would go on to pick up further blacktype in group company as both a two and three year old.
She is an exceptionally well bred mare, with a plethora of blacktype horses on the pedigree sheet, including half brothers, Same World and Spin Cycle who ran to 114 and 113.
Whilst she has produced a couple of above average horses, she hasn’t produced a superstar as of yet but she has mainly been paired with middle distance types with her best produce being by Exceed and Excel who is predominantly a speed influence, as we expect Blackbeard to be.
No Nay Never has been crossed with Verglas just the once in Europe, producing Cynosure who ran to an RPR in the mid 90’s for Andrew Balding.
Our relationship with Ollie has grown year on year since our first purchase, Really Darn Hot, who was purchased at the Guineas breeze up sale in 2025.
Ollie has gone on to accomplish plenty in such a short training career, with the majority of his high profile success coming in the shape of fillies which particularly suits our business model.
Earlier this year, he trained the 2nd and 3rd in the 1000 Guineas, a massive feat in just his third season of training
We've already tasted stakes success with Glamis Road, a moderately priced animal who exceeded expectation by winning the Listed Herod stakes in 2024.
As we continue to repeat, this filly will qualify for band C races and therefore she is eligible for all the £30-£40k novices that we have enjoyed plenty of success in this season, winning five such races so far in 2025.
In addition to that, she will also qualify for the €250k Arqana sales races that are ran in September with that scheme been enhanced every year, with newcomers races and conditions races at multiple distances now in place.
As she was bred in France, she also qualifies for French Premiums, a very lucrative bonus scheme if she were to line up across the channel.
