Awtaad X Style Substance 2yo colt was bought from the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sales for 19,000 Guineas.
This colt produced a very professional and solid breeze up the Rowley Mile by recording 11.13 (80th) and 11.38 (61st) sectionals over the two furlongs with a run out of 4.40 seconds (24th). This breeze puts the colt in 54th ranking from the 170 horses who breezed on the day.
So those are the numbers but now we need to think about the horses who breezed on the day. This colt is by Awtaad who is a high class stallion who has produced multiple Stakes horses including our own Al Qareem who has won 10 Stakes races in recent years. Awtaad is undoubtedly a stamina over speed influence. His progeny's average winning is 9.1 furlongs so the 2 furlong breeze up test is obviously not a fair test, particularly when you are comparing his time against horses who are bred to peak over 5 furlongs.
When we look at the horses who we expect to be 8 to 10 furlong horses then our Awtaad colt has the second best gallop out of the 11 horses. The gallop out has to be the most important indicator as it shows how well the horse is travelling when it finishes its piece of work, thus indicating what was potentially to come if he galloped further.
Our Awtaad colt stands around 15'3 so is a good size, and he looks like a stayer based on his body shape. He has good confirmation and came out of the breeze sound which around 20% of the horses in the sale failed to do.
Looking back in his pedigree he has a staying pedigree with the likes of Alamshar and Alayan in there.
Gemma loves training these staying horses and this is very much a horse who we see running at 2 and progressing as a 3yo.
We bought this colt from Hyde Park who over the years have produced more than their fair share of racehorses with the likes of Cachet and Mystery Angel coming from their Newmarket drafts.
We expect this horse to want a trip of 7 furlongs as a starting point and this year the 7 furlong races are starting much sooner with the first races over 7 furlongs on May 18th.
